Search Engines

The major players in the search engine market currently are Google, Yahoo, and Msn. I’m not sure what the strategic merger is in creating the next big thing. Companies try and pay attention to the ever changing technology world. Consumer’s main concern is how fast they can get what they are searching for. They also want an organized and easy way to get it. Google has obviously taken over this market in many different ways. They offer email, a search engine, news, mapping, groups, and much more. They have taken everything the internet can offer and put them together into an organized Google site. They have recently come out with the idea of the G phone. This is very similar to the Apple Iphone. It would be much less expensive and have internet connection very similar to it. It would be a huge jump for this market and a lot of competitors will be very interested in following that same path.

The deep web is known to be 500 times bigger than the accessible web that we know of. Deep web is referred to as “information in databases that is generally inaccessible to the software spiders and crawlers that create search engine indexes.” Developments to be able to get to this information will probably be made in the next 3 to 4 years. There will be a program that will be able to get a hold of anything on the internet. There is usually a reason why the deep web isn’t accessible by a search engine. Then you have to go into the legal reasons of why its so deep.

“Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce.” This is how all the new ideas for technology start. People with great ideas look deeper into technological features and find the problems with them. Then they take those problems and make them into solutions. New legal issues will probably be tighter security policies. This will most likely hinder some search engines however. There is only so many places search engines can find information from without it being illegal.

Corporate ethics, governance, and citizenship will play a huge role in this development. Rules and regulations have to be part of an organized company to ensure the safety of that company and its consumers. Capitalism is at odds with information creation and privacy. We live in a world that it’s okay to hack into people’s security and lives. I think that once you give information to a site, that information should be deleted or not be available to anyone other than that site. More action needs to be taken into security and safety of computer users. Search engines are becoming more advanced every day and with that come less privacy for some people.

The Dark Side of the Internet

The dark side of the Internet can be a very dangerous thing to a lot of computer users. Since its 2008, you would think the security online would be the best it’s ever been, but its not. Hackers are able to get a hold of a person’s personal information, credit history, and a lot more that should be secured on the internet. A company like TJX should have never been hacked in to. Their security should have been better because they are dealing with a customer’s credit history. When you’re writing an email or an Internet posting, it shouldn’t include information that could hurt you in any way. In the old Boston political saying, “Never write when you can say. Never say when you can wink. Never wink when you can nod.” This saying basically states that you can always say less than you do. On Internet postings, where everyone can basically see them, you should never post personal information or something that you wouldn’t want your mother to read. If you do, it would most likely get back to you

Every computer should have a security program. Viruses are very common in these days. They can get on your computer through downloading, entering certain websites, or even opening an email. Virus’ differ from being extremely dangerous to just annoying. They can go from knowing the last thing you bought online and how you bought it, to making your screen flash on and off. This can be prevented by doing a daily scan on your computer with your antivirus software.
Spy ware is a very dangerous software. It gathers information about a person or computer without permission or knowledge. It’s basically a software made to spy on people. Currently it only affects Microsoft Windows. It slows your connection, adds pop-ups to your internet and it can potentially crash your computer.

The dark side of the Internet also deals with child molesters and predators. Since children are going online at such a young age, this makes its much more dangerous. Predators use a child’s vulnerability to take advantage of potentially becoming engaged with the child. This is a very serious crime that constantly needs to be addressed. Hopefully parents will become more engaged in a child’s activity on the computer to keep them safe. The criminal charges for Internet hacking crimes should be greater. These crimes can really injure a persons life, their job, family, and could even hurt them physically. In my opinion, apple computers are the safest software out there. It’s designed with a very tight security system to ensure the safety of the customer’s identity.

Future cars

In the next 20 years, the image of cars will be dramatically different. Not only will the external parts be modernized but the internal parts of the body will be extremely technologically advanced. One of the biggest changes that will occur is fuel. Cars will be charged by farm fuels such as ethanol or bio-diesel; lithium ion batteries that supply 250 miles worth of highway speeds; unique hybrids; hydrogen fuel cells; solar panels; and even compressed air(Discovery channel; future cars). This will lead to less pollution in the air and less money for consumers to spend on gas. Since cars are the main way of transportation, the congestion in this world is extremely high. Using farm fuels will dramatically drop the amount of pollution put into the air each day. As phones and computers add more features, cars are starting to do the same.

The crave this year is the GPS system. As there are many different types out there, the main point of the GPS system is for your car to get you where you need to go without worrying about getting lost or getting stuck in traffic. Alot of new cars come standard with these GPS systems. I predict by 2015, GPS systems will be a normal feature in all new cars. Its already standard in the Gm luxury cars. Another feature that is being introduced to the market, is voice activated controls. This allows the driver to continue concentrating on the road while making themselves more comfortable in the car. The drivers voice may activate the music, the heat/air conditioning, seat controls, phone, and windows. Because of this hands free device, less accidents will occur and people are overall more safe in their car. Adding to the safeness of the car, there will be better security on cars. Less cars will be broken into because either they wont be able to get into the car or less people will try to.

Computer applications are becoming more advanced very quickly nowadays. The intelligent home is a fine example of changing technology. A user of the intelligent home can access many settings in their house from outside their house. They can change their heat, turn off the lifts, monitor the security from their computer or even their cell phone. This can save a consumer precious time and money. New computre software is a huge help to the military. Using computers to direct vehicles in the line of fire can save many lives. While it may not be as affective as using humansyet I'm sure in upcoming years it will catch up.

On the highway, Dynamic message signs can be used. (DMSs). These signs can manage lanes due to traffic, weather, tolls and accidents. They will help drivers adjust to the changes on the highway in a safer more convenient way. As computer technology increases in many different parts of a persons everyday life, a persons dependence on it will grow. As new inventions arise, people become more reliant on them instantly because its easier and sometimes more reliable. For the most case, this new technology is a advantage to our lives. We have to be careful however to remember that there can always be a kink in the system.
