The major players in the search engine market currently are Google, Yahoo, and Msn. I’m not sure what the strategic merger is in creating the next big thing. Companies try and pay attention to the ever changing technology world. Consumer’s main concern is how fast they can get what they are searching for. They also want an organized and easy way to get it. Google has obviously taken over this market in many different ways. They offer email, a search engine, news, mapping, groups, and much more. They have taken everything the internet can offer and put them together into an organized Google site. They have recently come out with the idea of the G phone. This is very similar to the Apple Iphone. It would be much less expensive and have internet connection very similar to it. It would be a huge jump for this market and a lot of competitors will be very interested in following that same path.
The deep web is known to be 500 times bigger than the accessible web that we know of. Deep web is referred to as “information in databases that is generally inaccessible to the software spiders and crawlers that create search engine indexes.” Developments to be able to get to this information will probably be made in the next 3 to 4 years. There will be a program that will be able to get a hold of anything on the internet. There is usually a reason why the deep web isn’t accessible by a search engine. Then you have to go into the legal reasons of why its so deep.
“Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce.” This is how all the new ideas for technology start. People with great ideas look deeper into technological features and find the problems with them. Then they take those problems and make them into solutions. New legal issues will probably be tighter security policies. This will most likely hinder some search engines however. There is only so many places search engines can find information from without it being illegal.
Corporate ethics, governance, and citizenship will play a huge role in this development. Rules and regulations have to be part of an organized company to ensure the safety of that company and its consumers. Capitalism is at odds with information creation and privacy. We live in a world that it’s okay to hack into people’s security and lives. I think that once you give information to a site, that information should be deleted or not be available to anyone other than that site. More action needs to be taken into security and safety of computer users. Search engines are becoming more advanced every day and with that come less privacy for some people.
